Wedding photographer questions,
ten real questions to ask!
I have a lot of brides contact me who print off questionnaires online on “What to ask your wedding photographer”. The only problem, is they seem to be written by editors and not actual photographers. Some random questions I’ve been asked include “Do you give the RAW files?”. Actually, if I gave the RAW files, you wouldn’t be able to open or print them. Or “How many megapixels is your camera?” Well that depends on which camera, and if I’m shooting on my film camera then zero. So that’s why I decided to write some questions that would really help as written from a photographer’s perspective. Enjoy!
1) Why are you worth the amount you charge?
I honestly WISH a couple would ask me this! I could tell them so many things! I am a premiere Photography Company, which means I take a limited number of weddings per year. This is different to a factory studio who takes as many people as possible and the quality can be lower (not always). Since I take a limited number of weddings, I’m really able to try to give each couple the time and attention they deserve. I also try to build a relationship with my couple so that they are more relaxed in front of the camera and are more likely to show genuine emotions. Furthermore, I /We were also announced as a World Elite Wedding photographer by Spain (WEP) this means we shoot under certain expectations that is world recognised by the elite of photographers across the globe. Our editing is also done in Studio I edit the photos myself, giving it a personal touch.. This is why I charge a bit more than the larger studios because of this personal relationship and attention to detail. Finally, I have been published in many publications including Wedding Friends, Bruids gids, Wedding guide, Rock and Roll Bride, Lovilee, South Bound Bride,, and more! Being published of course, doesn’t make a better photographer. But it does provide credibility and trust with your photographer. I also are a trusted prefer supplier to many venues across of South Africa, Avianto, Lavandou, Tsekama wedding venue etc.

2) Do you shoot natural light or artificial light? Or both?
This is an important question because it will really determine how flexible a photographer is while shooting your wedding. Ideally a photographer needs two work with both aspects, We shoot our lighting in both ways in case any natural lighting is not working well on the day but ideally we love natural light it’s what gives the timeless elegance in all our photographs.
3) Do you back up your files After a Wedding?
This is a very important question. And yes we do. even after your final presentation of photographs have been given, we keep your files safe on our system. After every wedding your files are backup on multiple platforms and a copy of each file is made.
4) Will I get a HIGH* resolution DVD?
All our packages include your high resolution Edited files with no Watermarks. All the fine art images will be given on a LAFRIQUE USB that way your guarantee on your files are save when we make you Wedding package delivery.
Why Do you not give us RAW files-(okay let's add this)
This however is a very misunderstood aspect of wedding photographers and why we don’t realy give out raw images. First you can’t even open the files on your computer or phone. And it’s a raw product and far from the original work you wanted to book your photographer in the first place.
Clients book us as a professional so that we are able to discern what is good and what is not.
As a photographer, everything we put out into the world should be a representation of a style and brand. This is how we received our title as a world elite photographer. Much of our clients does come with that we might have missed something, but we edit latterly every single photo we have taken on the day. The doubles are merely of lighting changing and what’s happening in the background. That’s why we make sure our clients have that level of faith and trust in us to know that they choose the best.
5) How do you make us feel relaxed in front of the camera?
This is a very important question! You want to feel relaxed in front of the camera so that you show more genuine emotions in your photos. Since were a premier Studio, I specialize in trying to capture those special moments and by trying to make sure you are more comfortable in front of the camera. Personalities is a hit, if you’re unsure book an Engagement shoot and see how we work with you. We have made hundreds of couples happy over the years. We are mainly a people- person company and love working with our couples to achieve the best relaxed photos. Just go read our client love page client love
6) How do you describe your shooting style? Are you laid back or aggressive? Do you tell the whole story of the day?
I’ve heard crazy stories of aggressive photographers and videographers. That’s why it’s so important to make sure you have a photographer that is a good fit with your wedding. We are relaxed but still take charged over your Wedding photography coordination. Its important NOT to make a couple tense. If they tense we tense. But we always have the photography documentation on deck.
7) Will you help me with my time line for the wedding day?
A good photographer should help plan the photo aspect of the day to make sure everything flows smoothly. The last thing you want to do is to be rushed on your wedding day, which is why I suggest to ALL of my couples this Wedding guideline booklet. Yes we are coordinating the photography before and during your wedding day. You can always get in touch with us if you’re unsure of any timeline problems. We have captured over 200+ Weddings we have seen it all.
8) What happens if you get sick on my day?
I have photographed weddings for a couple of years now and have never missed one yet *knock on wood*. But I My plan would include my 2nd photographer being the first photographer and then I have a network of other photographer who I can reach out to as well. As a premiere photography company we still will recommend the best.
9) What will we do if it rains or snow?
Oh I wish it would snow!!*wink-wink*-Knowing what to do if it rains on your wedding day is important. The weather in this seasons lately, has been especially difficult. That’s why we always have a backup plan to all of our weddings, our lighting is perfectly fine for any circumstances. And some wonderful and beautiful shots can be taken with a big wide open black umbrella in the rain with the rain in the background looking like sparkles. If you have a venue inside we can also do some inside photographing as well. The ideas are endless and weather should not be any worries for your photography.
10) What would you like for dinner?
Yes! I included this one because I think it’s important to show that you care about your photographer. Let’s be honest, your photographer is there longer than anyone else on your wedding day! A florist comes for part of the day, the band or DJ is only there for 4-5 hours, but a photographer arrives way before you get your dress on. I have photographed 10 hour weddings where we never got fed and yes, it makes it harder for the photographer. Of course, I now bring snacks, but it’s still nice to offer
